How lawmakers in New Jersey have been trying to help struggling casinos

The impact of the coronavirus can be seen in our own state, as we are all currently still being kept home and struggling. It’s worth noting that these measures have obviously been put in place for the community’s safety, and to keep people from being in dangerous situations. That does not mean that they are not frustrating, challenging or constricting measures to deal with, though.

One area of our state that has been particularly affected by the coronavirus pandemic is the casino scene. As many of you will know, New Jersey is known for being one of the biggest gambling hubs in America. In fact, here at NJ Gambling Fun, we specialize in looking at gambling and sports betting in our content- take a look here for an example.

While there have certainly been negative effects on our gambling scene from the coronavirus pandemic, it’s worth noting that lawmakers and officials in the state are moving to protect businesses who are affected by it. In this article, we’ll be diving into this topic in more depth, looking at how casinos have been affected (you can also read about it here, here and here) and what lawmakers are doing about it.

Coronavirus pandemic & the struggling gambling scene in New Jersey

The coronavirus pandemic has caused a mass of disruption to the casino scene in New Jersey. As many of you reading this will know, the casinos in our state are immensely popular and provide a great source of income to the government as a whole.

However, that has all changed in recent months.

Following recent mandatory closures and lockdown procedures, casinos and gambling hubs all around New Jersey have been forced to cease trading. Those with online betting presences have done better than those with traditional leanings, as people are still gambling from home.

Many casinos all around the state have had to lay off workers, which has been devastating. Others have put their workers on furlough leave which is reassuring, but there are concerns that this may not be a wise long term strategy. Overall, the casino scene in New Jersey has truly been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic.

How lawmakers are aiming to help out struggling casinos

It has been incredibly tough for casinos in New Jersey to deal with the coronavirus pandemic, as you can see. Traditional casinos with limited or no online presences have been struggling particularly to keep themselves afloat.

Thankfully, lawmakers in the state are looking to help out those businesses who are finding 2020’s strange circumstances hard to deal with. As noted in this handy article, recent legislation has been put into play to support businesses in New Jersey. Breaks in tax and loans with zero interest have been provided by the state to the nine main casinos in New Jersey.

These legal measures are twofold. One major reason for doing this is to keep the casinos in business, and to prevent further losses of staff or revenue. After all, the casinos in New Jersey make up a huge part of the revenue for the state, and the job roles within these companies are incredibly important to local people.

Another important reason for these legal measures is that they can also help to support the state and keep it afloat in terms of finance as well. After all, revenue streams for New Jersey have all but stopped as the retail, hospitality and entertainment sectors have ground to a halt as a result of the pandemic.

Generally speaking, it’s clear that the state is doing everything it can to support the casinos in New Jersey. It’s apparent that the government officials place a lot of value in what the casinos do for the state, so it is reassuring to know that they are aiming to help out struggling businesses wherever possible.

To sum up

As you can see, it has been an incredibly difficult year so far for many traditional casinos and betting shops all around the world. The mandatory closures in our own state of New Jersey have resulted in massive profit losses for countless businesses, and have even resulted in people losing their jobs, as we noted earlier.

Before this all started, it was going swimmingly for the betting world, with more people moving to legalize it and accept it all around the world. The fact that the gambling scene has been affected so badly in recent months has been truly heartbreaking for some, as it feels like the wave of progress has been stopped in its tracks.

It’s worth noting, though, that the gambling industry is full of innovative and creative thought leaders. There’s always something new going on in the betting world, and we’re bound to see the gambling world bounce back even stronger than before. Combining this with the added help of lawmakers in the state provides a general sense of hope and optimism.
