International Game Technology PLC, or IGT for short, is a London-based casino technology company that operates around the globe with offices in Rome, Las Vegas, Reno, and Providence, Rhode Island.
WagerWorks is a subsidiary of IGT that focuses on software development but the name is often used interchangeably for IGT in the industry, especially in New Jersey.
About IGT (Wager Works) Casino Software
As with many companies in the casino software industry, the history of IGT is a bit convoluted. It was built through multiple mergers and acquisitions and went through several name changes along the way. The name comes from an American company, IGT, while the corporate structure goes back to an Italian company known as Lottomatica.
Lottomatica was an Italian gambling technology company founded in Rome in 1990. In 2006, it acquired an American casino gaming company called Gtech and took that on as its new corporate name. IGT was a Las Vegas-based company founded in 1975 that manufactured slot machines. In 2005, IGT bought an online gaming software developer known as WagerWorks.
Time passed. In 2015, Gtech acquired IGT in a merger that saw Gtech get 51% of the new company. The new company took on International Game Technology as the name of their new corporate entity. Today, IGT does business in over 100 countries around the world and is an industry leader in all things casino-related.
The company is a casino conglomerate involved with almost every aspect of casino gaming. It develops gaming software for land-based casinos and mobile devices, manufactures slot machines, video table game machines, and sports betting terminals. It also sells a full range of casino management software and services. There are very few aspects of an online or land-based casino that you will encounter that could not have come from IGT or one of its subsidiaries.

One of the first things you will most likely notice when perusing the game selection of IGT is the large selection of officially licensed, branded games. The deals and partnerships they have with known commodities are among the best in the industry. The titles include everything from movies (Ghostbusters, Hairspray) to TV shows (Charlie’s Angels, Baywatch) to Game Shows (Wheel of Fortune, Price is Right) to individual celebrities who have their own slot games (Adam Levine, Blake Shelton)
IGT game design features a “mobile-first” strategy. They design the games to be accessible for mobile devices and to work in both portrait (vertical) and landscape (horizontal) mode first. Then the game software is designed to work on a desktop browser or physical casino machines. This makes for a far better mobile experience than playing games that were originally created for machines or desktop and then retrofitted to mobile devices.
PlayDigital is the mobile brand of IGT. PlayDigital offers a number of mobile features for players and casinos alike. They have a wide range of games including slots, poker, table games, lotteries, bingo, and more. They have games for online casinos as well as mobile games for land-based casinos that allow their guests to continue to play even when they are away from the physical machines or tables.
IGT has also pioneered a feature that may change the way slot games are played. They recently released the first-ever “omnichannel progressive” slot game in Canada. This progressive slot game, PowerBuck$, is the inaugural game. It shares “jackpot liquidity” between mobile and land-based games. This is to say that the progressive jackpot is built by players playing online and in-person and can be won by a player on either platform. This is an incredibly novel and innovative concept that is erasing the lines between playing in a physical casino and a virtual one.
This new hybrid progressive slot is not IGT’s only innovative and disruptive technology. They are leading the way in the field of multi-sensory experiences with their inventive TRUE 4D games. IGT also employs another new technology, known as PowerSight technology, that allows players to manipulate aspects of gameplay by simply moving their head or eyes.
Popular IGT (WagerWorks) Games
IGT produces a large number of games for mobile and land-based casino machines. They offer a wide selection of slot and video table games along with other styles of games. Here are some of the popular games they produce.
This is part of IGT’s All-Star Evolution series. They take classic, popular games and update them for 2020. This game has a black cat logo. Since black cats typically mean bad luck, players must break that luck when they play. The game has what IGT calls “a dynamic MultiWay interface” that provides players with an astonishing 59,049 ways to win. As players get certain symbols on this 5-reel game, the column height expands for more winning. At the top of the column is a “Luck Zone”. When reached, players can win even bigger prizes.
This game is popular with players because of its distinctive 4x5x4x5x4 reel interface. The game has 50 paylines and when players get lion symbols adjacent symbols within the game become wild, creating a chain reaction effect that is very exciting. A cool bonus wheel features even more diverse action.
For players of a certain age, the image of a lifeguard in a red bathing suit running down the beach brings back great memories, and IGT taps into this nostalgia with its officially licensed Baywatch slot game. This is a relatively standard 5-reel slot game but what makes it so popular is the fun in the sun graphics and the iconic characters from the show such as Mitch (David Hasselhoff), CJ (Pamela Anderson), and Jenna (Krista Allen). In the bonus round, you even get to pick your favorite lifeguard and they help you with a multiplier.
Price Is Right
Whether you like the Bob Barker or Drew Carey version of this classic daytime game show, the IGT slots game is popular with everyone. The basic game is a 5-reel slot game with bold, classic graphics. The real fun comes in the bonus rounds where players get to play iconic Price is Right games such as Plinko, Dice Game, or Cliffhanger. It is almost like being on the show.
