PointsBet is the first US sports betting operator to sign up for the Genius Sports streaming service, which is delivered through the Betgenius subsidiary. This allows sports bettors in New Jersey, Indiana, Iowa, Illinois, Colorado, and Michigan to watch live, streaming sporting events on the PointsBet app and website.
What the PointsBet Deal Entails
The deal expands the existing partnership between the two companies; previously, the partnership was limited to Betgenius delivering in-game trading content to the PointsBet app and website.
The sporting events offered through the streaming service are often played at off-peak hours, such as when the major leagues are not playing. This allows PointsBet and other operators to supply their sports bettors with streaming content 24/7.
PointsBet vice president of customer and insights, Ron Shell, made this observation; “The average US sports bettor currently has an almost perfect 50/50 split of placing bets before the game versus placing bets in-play.” Live, streaming games could encourage bettors to place more in-game bets.
Genius Sports Group’s senior vice president for the US, Bill Anderson, added that he was excited to launch live, streaming sports with its first US customer.
“Offering a unique and different betting experience has allowed PointsBet to achieve impressive growth in the US over the last two years,” Anderson said.

About Genius Sports Group
Established in 2016, Genius Sports Group is a sports technology and data company providing both integrity and data management services to major sports leagues and sports betting operators. The company was formed following a merger between Betgenius and SportingPulse International, a sports data and software business.
In 2017, the company acquired Data Project, a technology provider for volleyball. Also in 2017, the PGA Tour launched a new Integrity Program using Genius Sports bet monitoring and educational services.
In 2018, the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletics Association) engaged Genius Sports to launch a new, landmark statistics initiative for the NCAA’s 1,100 members. The initiative was aimed at modernizing how NCAA Schools and Conferences used game statistics to drive performance levels, engage fans as well as managing their operations.
Finally, in 2019, Genius Sports made a deal with NASCAR to become the exclusive provider of its data to licensed sportsbooks globally.
Based down under in Australia, PointsBet made its US debut in New Jersey in 2019. PointsBet is one of the fastest-growing online sportsbooks in the US, quickly expanding beyond New Jersey to Colorado, Iowa, and Illinois.
What makes PointsBet unique is that it is the only online sportsbook in the country to offer PointsBetting, a high-risk, high-reward type of betting. Bettors are either rewarded or reduced by how right or wrong their bet was. Unlike fixed odds, every point of difference from the total or spread becomes a multiplier of the original stake. This allows the bettor to win or lose more based on the outcome of their bet. This means every point scored, every yard gained, every run, every play, and every goal matters!
