Samuel Vousden of Finland is the latest addition to the poker champions of the world. To win the WSOP Gold bracelet is quite an achievement; one that many poker players only dream about. The race begins with a mammoth crowd of participants each considering their ability and strategy good enough to pull the championship to their side.
It is quite a miracle starting as a participant among the 2,000 people wanting to try their luck at getting the first position, to actually making it. The coveted WSOP bracelet for the current year went to Vousden after two long days at the tables; the GGPoker win happened on the number 16 event. The online WSOP GGMasters event with a buy-in of $1,050 froze out the NHL event organized by GGPoker.
The entire event had a guaranteed prize pool of $2 million so it is not surprising that over 2,000 people wanted to try their luck with the championship. Well, none can declare to have been denied a chance at greatness.
The participants collectively contributed towards the $2,240,000 prize pool which was a little over what had been promised as a guarantee. In the end, Vousden walked away with a cash prize of $274,519 which was the highest individual payout from the entire NJ based poker tournament.
An Australian national by the name Joshua McCully, increased his chances of a win towards the close of the first day of the tournament. The second day actually started with him having the highest number of chips but this lead was not to hold for very long. The day was still rather young when Alexander “0_really” Zubov shoved him out. Other notable exits that took place early in the second day are Miltiades Kontes, Mor “Yosemite Sam” Leybovich, Faraz “Pokerguy21” Jaka, and Pablo Silva.

The race to the top

By the time the final table games began, Vousden had low hopes in clinching the top position because he ranked number 8 according to the value of chips in his hands. The first indication that his fortunes would turn around came when one of his moves forced Zubov to take a major fold. A short while later and Vousden was dealing a double of pocket kings to the great disadvantage of Bernardo Granato. He then chipped against Nicolo “Do-WhatYou-lov3” Bartolone with a set of sixes.
The busting of Zubov was not too far off because he was ousted at position eight courtesy of a pocket jack and thereafter gulping down a huge pot served by Sergei Denisov. Vousden used this bust as a stepping stone to the top because he immediately began building a resistance as he built on his chip possession.
The champion in the making created an exit plan for Denisov awarding him the sixth position in the final round before turning the axe on Bartolone. His elimination happened on the serving of three jacked which were flopped, awarding him a fifth position win. The next in line was Granato whose fall came upon the serving of an ace king which landed him in the fourth position on the chart.
With the competition ring now narrowed down to three players, the only direction that Vousden was facing was up. The pressure would soon mount on the entire round before caving in on Qibing “degenkaliu” Wang. Wang however took up the mantle albeit shortly from Vousden and eliminated Zac “Pyschedelic” Duce from the game.
The stage was now set for a duel between the two remaining players; each of which was a champion in their own right. The play advantage favored Vousden who scooped a consecutive back to back series of pots before taking the chance to flush out Wang into the second position win. This was quite a remarkable finish for a player that was for the first time going to take home the WSOP gold bracelet.
