Online Poker Tournament Breaks the Previous Guinness Book Record

GG poker recently made history by generating the largest prize pool for an online poker tournament, thus breaking the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the biggest prize pool for an online poker tournament. The prize pool, which amounted to $27,559,500, was the largest that the World Series of Poker Online Event has ever seen.

The $5,000 Main Event was the main tournament of the 54 gold bracelet WSOP online 2020 series held by GGPoker. A Bulgarian player, Stoyan Madanzhiev beat them all during the 5,802-player field to clear the $3,904,685 top payout, which was the biggest individual payout ever awarded in an online poker tournament. This also earned him his first World Series of Poker bracelet.

The impressive record $27,559,500 prize pool was split among the first 728 finalists in the tournament. All the prize winners were awarded a minimum $11,834 payout. Punters and poker lovers expect nothing short of perfection and jaw-dropping prices when it comes to the World Series of Poker, and GGPoker definitely did not disappoint.

As one of the top online poker rooms available today, GGPoker has grown its global player base to the millions. Thanks to its range of innovative games on offer, as well as enhanced gaming experiences, GGPoker is easily one of the best-reviewed options available.

Online poker tournaments are king

Online poker tournaments have been a top choice for so many individuals, for so many years as we’ve covered here. And it’s easy to see why. They allow punters to participate in real money wagering sans all the pressure. All they have to do is find a comfortable corner and a secure internet connection. Easy, peasy!

Indeed, the industry did not really take off until big, multi-table tournaments made their way into the industry. Huge online poker sites such as PokerStars and PartyPoker began taking advantage of the demand in the 2000s by launching and capitalizing on the growing tournament trend. By the end of 2004, the once unexplored frontier of online poker was a booming industry.

Today, the game has expanded from allowing a handful of punters sitting at one rotating table to including millions of players all over the world. These larger than life poker tournaments boast massive fields and impressive guaranteed prize pools. Any online poker company worth its salt has a big poker tournament that players can look forward to.

Online poker has some obvious perks

Ever since the advent of online poker as the 90s were drawing to a close, the game has blown up in popularity with the number of players growing to millions all across the globe. It’s easy to see why punters are drawn to online poker games.

First and foremost, poker promises anonymity and privacy, which is a huge plus for anyone unwilling to compromise on that sort of thing. A lot of poker players looking to keep their identities under wraps often use screen names that are almost impossible to decipher, which adds an added layer of comfort and ease, thus making the game a lot more enjoyable.

Online poker games are designed such that punters only gamble what they can afford. Ah, and the tournaments! Poker tournaments, which are growing by their numbers daily are ideal for those with a competitive spirit. Everyone loves a live poker tournament, but they can be very stress-inducing particularly when the stakes are high.

And it’s not just tournaments that are having a moment. Social poker is also on the rise. No one can dispute that the drama of playing with real cash is partly the reason poker is so alluring. However, even when there is no real cash to be won, poker is still a pretty fascinating game. That’s why numerous poker sites such as PartyPoker and their corresponding social gaming networks are also on the rise today.

When the poker boom took place all those years ago, some brands quickly started opening up free rooms to cater to players looking for the social aspect of poker. Today, social poker operators are generating millions in annual revenue as the popularity of social poker continues. Social networks and poker apps have only helped to generate more demand for social poker.

Just recently, PartyPoker launched a virtual currency (Diamonds) that allows players to play a particular number of hands. Once punters accumulate enough diamonds, they can then use them for in-game upgrades. In 2018, PokerStars also debuted a social poker game, as did the World Series of Poker years before.

Since social poker games don’t include real cash, they make their money via ads as well as in-game purchases. The main objective of many free social poker games is to get punters familiar with the fame, nourish their appetite for it, which will hopefully help them move on to real cash poker tournaments and games. Even though poker has enjoyed tremendous growth over the years, challenges abound that have made it difficult to expand. In the US, such digital rooms and platforms are only allowed in a handful of states.

Final Thoughts

Poker has gone mainstream folks! In a short time, online poker has grown from a dissident concept in its embryonic stages to a revolutionary sensation that’s currently in its prime. Today, punters have a wide range of tournaments to choose from the World Series of Poker to many more.

These tournaments are broadcast all over the world to millions of adoring and captivated fans. Everyone wants to take part and those who can’t, simply observe. As tech becomes more advanced, these tournaments, as well as their stakes will only keep getting better.
