Caesars Online Casino Premiers in Pennsylvania

Despite the devastation the Coronavirus and the resulting shutdowns have had on the gambling industry, there is some good news. In partnership with Harrah’s Philadelphia, Caesars online casino has launched in Pennsylvania. This follows a month after the launch of the Caesars online sportsbook; the shutdown has temporarily stalled the success of the sportsbook, due to the shutdown of sports worldwide. Caesars is hoping to have more success with the launch of its casino platform. Of course, all of the land-based casinos in Pennsylvania are currently shut down due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Caesars casino is the ninth online casinos in Pennsylvania. The online casino can be found at pa.caesarsonline.com. After a two day testing period the Caesars online casino was approved by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

Prior to the official launch, Caesars conducted a soft launch that unveiled a few of the online slots that are available at the casino. Some of the slot titles include Zeus III, Monopoly Mega Movers, Raging Starmania, and Rhino.

Gamblers Moving to Online Casinos

The Keystone State has seen an increase in players who are turning to online casinos during the COVID-19 lockdowns. Online casino play is the only form of gambling benefiting the industry during the enforced shutdowns the world is enduring right now. The twelve land-based casinos in Pennsylvania are currently shut down, as is every casino in the country. While revenue from Caesars online sportsbook is less than expected, online casino revenue across the state increased by 24.5% in March, up from February’s $24.3 million.

Caesars new online casino shares the same platform as Caesars sportsbook. The timing of the sportsbook launch was unfortunate, launching just as all US sporting event was postponed due to the virus. The sportsbook’s total for March was just $139,790.

The increase in online casino play also means the market across the country is more competitive. While Caesars did not issue a formal announcement about their new online casino, they did alert Pennsylvania residents that the casino is now available for use.

Currently, Caesars casino mobile app is only available for an Android device. Caesars has indicated that an iOS version will be coming out soon, but hasn’t given a date when the iOS version will launch.

Caesars has also extended its generous rewards program to online players. The online rewards are similar to the program that Caesars has at its brick and mortar casinos.

Right now, it’s a matter of wait and see as to how many casino games will be offered in Pennsylvania. However, the New Jersey version of Caesars’ online casino offers more than 500 slot titles and a wide array of table games. As of now, it remains to be seen if there is a similar number of games offered in Pennsylvania.

Pressure Mounts in Pennsylvania to Reopen Land-based Casinos

While both players and workers are eager to get back to the casinos, there is still no date for when casinos in Pennsylvania can reopen. However, there are some qualifications that need to be in place.

Governor Wolf presented a color-coded plan for reopening the Keystone State region-by-region. The plan does list casinos in the green phase. Currently, Pennsylvania remains in the red phase, and remains under stay-at-home orders until May 8. So it seems that reopening the land-based casinos will still be weeks away.
