Sports betting and digital gaming company, BetMGM, recently announced that Andrew Hagopian will join the company’s executive team as Chief Legal Officer. Mr. Hagopian will supervise BetMGM’s compliance and legal departments and will report directly to CEO, Adam Greenblatt.
Before this new assignment, Hagopian served as Chief Corporate Counsel of MGM Resorts International. He was instrumental in the joint venture between MGM Resorts and GVC Holdings to create BetMGM in 2018.
While at MGM Resorts, Hagopian led the team of attorneys and professionals responsible for implementing gaming regulations, joint ventures, corporate transactions, property operations, sports and entertainment, intellectual property, development, data privacy, securities, corporate governance, finance, and enterprise contracts.
“BetMGM sits at the intersection of gaming and technology,” Hagopian said. “This assignment is a great opportunity to leverage both my industry and transactional experience at BetMGM, a fast-moving company. The environment is both complex and regulated, and a strong and continued commitment to quality in compliance will be essential to BetMGM’s success.”
Adam Greenblatt, BetMGM CEO said, “Andrew’s comprehensive gaming industry experience, as well as his proven ability to lead and build a world-class legal team, will serve us well as we continue to rapidly grow in this dynamic industry.”
Before working at MGM Resorts, Mr. Hagopian served as an attorney with top-tier international law firm Gibson Dunn, which represents numerous Fortune 100 companies. At Gibson Dunn, Hagopian served on the corporate transactions and securities practice group, and also negotiated complex M&A transactions while advising publicly-traded companies on matters of governance and securities law.
Finally, Mr. Hagopian holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Southern California Marshall School of Business and a J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center.
BetMGM is among the top sports betting and digital gaming platforms in the country, and a pioneer of the online gaming industry. A joint venture between MGM Resorts International and GVC Holdings Plc, BetMGM has sole control of all of MGM’s land-based and online sports betting in the US, as well as online gaming and major tournament poker.
Using GVC’s US-licensed cutting edge technology, BetMGM offers players in New Jersey and other states sports betting and online gaming through its market-leading brands BetMGM, Party Casino, Borgata Casino, and Party Poker.
While MGM’s land-based resorts have lost revenue, due to the pandemic shutdowns, BetMGM revenue exceeded expectations. Currently, the BetMGM sports betting app is available in four states, and the app’s combined market share shot up from 4.5% in January to 8.7% by September. In New Jersey, the BetMGM casino app currently has an 18% market share.
Boosting Market Share Through Strategic Partnerships
BetMGM has forged a robust partnership with the PGA Tour, signing on an official betting partner, providing, among other things, live betting odds for the Tour’s CJ Cup, played last month at the Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas. The PGA Tour has become one of the most popular sports on the BetMGM sports betting platform.
BetMGM also signed a deal with the Detroit Lions, granting the sportsbook exclusive broadcast rights, as well as digital marketing and promotions within Ford Field Stadium. The Las Vegas Raiders and the Baltimore Ravens have also partnered with BetMGM as well as Caesars.
BetMGM also hired popular actor and musician Jamie Foxx to star in its ‘The King of Sportsbooks’ marketing campaign. The commercials are played on both television and social media in the markets where the sportsbook app is available.
Finally, the sports betting company launched the live show, “Betting Across America” in collaboration with VsiN.
